Winemakers at Yarra Valley

Kate Kirkhope.
Kate has owned and run the property since 1994. Having completed
a course in Viticulture in 1997 and developed a keen interest
in Organic Wines and BiodynamicWines following her son’s early education with
the Rudolf Steiner philosophy, she commenced to hone her viticulture
skills from 1997.
“I have learned my skill by following the vines and wine
closely in the vineyard, working and exchanging wisdom with peers
in my craft, and working vintage overseas with particular interest in organic and biodynamic wines. My inspiration has
come from some of the smallest and most famous Burgundy producers,
where the wine is a pure expression of the viticulture and site.
My father taught me the finer art of wine appreciation from an
early age, and I hope he would be proud of me today”.
Kate researched and developed a master plan for the wine estate
in 2000 and plantings commenced that year. Kate’s philosophy
is to grow great wine in the vineyard and then just enable the
wine to express itself naturally without interference.
Collaboration
Frederic Blanck
Frederic Blanck is wine maker at Paul Blanck et Fils in Alsace,
France. Frederic oversees the production of Grand Cru and other
wines for this prestigious estate. Impressed by Kate’s viticulture
and philosophy Frederic proposed a collaboration in the production
of a white wine, leading to their development of the “Preliminaire”
Blanc de Noir, using traditional non interventionist methods.
